Dear quy Truong, quy PH, and scouts -

This past Sunday, we enjoyed the wonderful Tết event hosted by the Vietnamese Scouting Committee (VSC) along with five other Lien Doan in the area. Our LD showed up with great spirit and great participation in all areas which contributed to the overall success of the event. On behalf of BDH, I would like to send my appreciation to everyone who attended and helped out in so many areas. It really showed our unity and strengths.

A special shoutout to the following members:

  • Tr. Denhi for taking care of the quality sound system, including all professional-grade equipment.
  • Tr. Chanh, Tr. DL for leading the beautiful and festive Tết decorations, plus many Truongs and parents who helped out with the set up and take down.
  • Tr. Minh D and Tr. Lan for taking care of two game booths, including attractive prizes, plus helpers who managed the booths.
  • Thieu Doan & TNHG for their amazing performances.
  • Tr. Di & anh Thanh for coordinating with Trang Doan to host the yummy food sale and extra fun activities for fundraising. Thanks to chi HaiThuy, chi Van Anh, and Tr. Dung for being the chefs.
  • Trang Doan for providing delicious lunch for all of us.
  • All photographers who have taken and shared photos

Once again, thank you so much for showing what a strong organization we are, and we cannot do it without you all.

Yours in Scouting,
Nhan La

A message from our District Chair

Celebrating Diversity in Our District:  Tet Festival!

I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am in being part of the Coyote Creek District scouting community and its thriving cultural diversity.  Ravi Budhia, District Commissioner, Ruth Pal-Freeman, District Roundtable Commissioner, Ravi Budhia, District Commissioner, and I representing the Coyote Creek District and David Lo and Bobby Today, representing the council, were recently able to attend a Tet Festival celebrating the Lunar New Year put together by a number of Lien Doan units in our district and hosted by Thomas Trang the Lien Doan President.  They had extended the invitation to all in the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council.  Theresa Dao was the main MC (Lien Doan Liaison) and the many youth MCs guided us through the ceremonies and festivities.  David Lo spoke for the SVMBC and the importance and contributions of the Lien Doans to the council.  Girl Scouts representatives, county and city representatives also spoke.  We were able to witness their traditional ancestor memorial ceremony, an incredible acrobatic lion dance consisting of 4 youth-driven lions, skits put on by the youth, beautiful dances performed by both the youth and adults.   President Thomas Trang reminded us that we must persevere through many difficulties to reach our goals, using a ripe coconut to illustrate this point, showing us the difficult process of removing the husk to finally be able to insert a straw to reach the reach the sweet coconut milk within.  Afterward, we were treated to a lunch consisting of delicious food both traditional and non-traditional.  We were able to talk to many of the leaders and learn of their needs and let them know that we at the district are here to support them.  It was a wonderful experience and wonderful day!  Thank you to Thomas Tran and to the leaders of all of the Lien Doan units for welcoming and treating us to this wonderful celebration.  How lucky we are to have folks from the many world cultures right in our district!  I encourage everyone to take every advantage of the opportunities to learn about the many different cultures represented in our district.
